July 02 Harvest

Another weekend, another harvest!

More kohlrabi is no surprise! It's a hardy vegetable and grows like a charm!

We managed to find some more radishes.  Unfortunately, most of them went to seed this year :(

Some fresh baby greens.

Everything is weighed & bagged.  (Still waiting on our 'baskets' to be delivered).

And finally, thanks Rachel for harvesting some arugula.

June 24 Harvest

A sunny day break! Yipee! Makes for a much more enjoyable harvest day!

Dayna's busy harvesting tender kale greens. Banning has his garden gloves on ready to go!

 Peas, peas and more peas!

Everything is weighed and bagged.

Looks like an assortment of greens today.

Broccoli...wow!

Trustworthy kohlrabi!

A harvest share!

June Update

We have now come to the start of our weekly harvest baskets. While some items are taking off, others are being beaten by the weeds, and eaten by the slugs & snails...and other items are yet to be planted.

We had an unusual heat wave a couple weeks back that sent a lot of our green items to seed, sadly. We are still hopeful at this point, as we start replanting some greens, and others are finally getting started.

We also are getting our tomatoes, peppers, cukes, and squashes in the ground -   and we are happy to have items ready and looking lovely for the upcoming baskets. Here are some of the items available now:

Kohlrabi & Broccoli!

Lettuce (and a salad mix).

We are very happy to have our share holders and friends come out and help us weed :)  Also, come walk through the rows with us and see what you can spot. Today I was excited to see a baby 'cauliflower' head making an appearance!

Nice to see the peppers and tomatoes taking to the soil!

Another day...

Another beautiful day at the farm! We were happy to welcome new shareholders to our SOL Farm family last Saturday, April 27!

Time for the farm's first weeding work party too!

And more planting to get done!

Looks like we have a crew manager (little Zoey) to help!

Yoga gardening!

Our first garden babies are looking good!

SOL Farm in the Community News!

An article is published about the SOL Farms in the Chilliwack Progress (April 24, 2012) announcing our new CSA and shares available in Chilliwack. The response is uplifting and we'll most likely meet our target of 10 shareholders for this year's growing season! We are so excited!

Earth Day at the Farm

The community garden on Sunshine Dr. is officially open! The small picture above in the Chilliwack Times  (April 24, 2012 (not 27) shows SOL farmers (and  community garden enthusiasts with Food Matters Chilliwack), Dayna Fidler, Rachel Poupore, and Jason & Laura Delisle - with mayor Sharon Gaetz - cutting the ribbon, officially opening the garden!

It's name is finally revealed!

Tours are given.

A work party happens! Jason and Banning help out!

Some work on the SOL Farm at the back gets done too!

Some great photos and coverage in the local newspaper followed:

Easter Weekend at the Farm

A beautiful Easter weekend and a great day to be at the farm!

Jason adds some 'soil amender' to the dirt and rota-tills it in.

Rachel gives it a try too!

Planting kohlrabi and other garden delights!

Meanwhile, on the same day there is a work party going on in the Community Garden.

SOL Farmer, Laura, helps out by beautifying the front entrance sign board.

Other volunteers come out to make more raised beds, add soil to the beds, and gravel to the pathways!

A great day!
